AI search for plumbers
When a customer asks ChatGPT for a plumber, does it name you?

What a plumber’s structured data makes possible.
An example of the kind of answer an assistant can only give when a plumber’s profile and site are complete and consistent. The business is fictitious (it’s our Dispatch demo).
You asked
Who can fix a burst pipe tonight in Cypress Bend, and are they licensed?
Assistant
Ferrule Plumbing & Drain lists 24-hour emergency service in Cypress Bend and nearby towns, shows its Texas Responsible Master Plumber license number on its website, and has a page for burst and frozen pipes with what to do before the plumber arrives.
What AI answers cite when someone asks for a plumber
BrightLocal analyzed the sources AI tools cited for local businesses across Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and ChatGPT. For plumbers (26,672 citations), 54% came from Google Business Profiles and 13.8% from Yelp (source: brightlocal.com). In other words, more than half of what AI says about a local plumber comes from the Google profile you already have, or should.
That’s good news: the work that wins the map pack is the same work that gets you named. A complete, accurate profile; the same name, number and service area on every listing; and a website whose pages say plainly what you do and where.
Where AI answers show up in plumbing searches
For “plumber near me” searches, the map pack still rules: Whitespark found a local pack on 93% of local-intent searches and an AI Overview on 15% (source: whitespark.ca). AI answers matter most for the research questions customers ask before a planned job, like whether to repair or replace a water heater, what a sewer line replacement costs, or whether a slab leak is an emergency. Those are the questions your service pages and guides should answer clearly.
What we do about AI search for plumbers
- Your Google Business Profile, kept complete by hand: the right categories, every service, your real service areas and hours.
- Structured data on every page that tells AI tools you’re a plumber, which services you offer and which towns you serve.
- A page for every service, with direct answers to the questions customers ask about it.
- A monthly check of whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity name you for the questions that matter in your area, and a monthly audit that proposes fixes when they don’t.
Looking for an AI receptionist instead?
A lot of “AI for plumbers” searches are about software that answers the phone. That’s a different product and we don’t sell it. If you use one, make sure it gives callers the same hours and service area your website and Google profile do: AI assistants notice when your facts disagree.
